The Albany Historical Society proudly serves as the custodian of two of Albany's most significant heritage sites, the Albany Convict Gaol and Patrick Taylor Cottage Museum.
The Albany Convict Gaol, built in 1852 stands as a testament to the region’s early colonial history and the role of convicts in shaping our city and Western Australia's development. Today, the Gaol offers visitors a glimpse into the harsh realities of the convict era, with exhibits that bring the stories of its past inhabitants to life.
Patrick Taylor Cottage Museum, the oldest surviving dwelling in Western Australia is a beautifully preserved example of early settler architecture. Originally the home of one of the first permanent settlers, Patrick Taylor, the cottage showcases life in the early 1800s, offering an intimate look into the challenges and triumphs of Albany's pioneers.
