WHALE WATCHING

Western Australia has one of the longest whale watching seasons in the world. Experience these magnificent gentle giants up close.

The Great Southern Region is celebrated for its abundant marine life, with its coastal waters serving as a prime location for whale watching during the annual migration season from May to October. Humpback, Southern Right and the rare Blue whales traverse these waters, often showcasing their might and elegance breaches and tail slaps. What enhances the whale watching experience in this area is the pristine beauty of the coastline. The rugged cliffs, unspoiled beaches and surrounding wilderness create a stunning backdrop for observing these magnificent marine mammals.

You can book a whale tour or enjoy the view from the shore at Cheynes Beach (Tourist Rocks) or Marine Drive, both of which offer excellent vantage points to witness these incredible creatures.

Watching Whales

Whales - humpback, southern right and blue whales - make their annual migration between May to December travelling from the south-west to the Kimberley. Depending on where you are in WA, you can sometimes see them from the shore but the best way to see them is to book a tour.
